The Missing’s millions of viewers will watch the thrilling series finale on the edge of their seats – just like its star, Keeley Hawes.
The 40-year-old actress, who plays traumatised mum Gemma Webster searching for daughter Alice, hasn’t even seen the final episode yet but compared filming some scenes to “being in a horror film” and says certain moments even made her jump out of her skin.
The actress said: “It was really creepy, even filming scenes where we found the hidden basement was quite creepy.
“It was like being in a horror movie or shooting a horror movie. It felt like someone was going to jump out of a cupboard or something at any moment.
“I haven’t seen the last episode yet and I haven’t told anyone the ending.
“I did some sound dubbing after we finished filming so I saw a little bit of the last episode and that made me jump even though I am in one of the scenes!
“When something happened I still jumped and screamed and I took that as a good sign.
“If I am going to do that it is going to have a good reaction. So I think I am going to watch it as it goes out with all the other viewers. I am looking forward to it.”
But the mother-of-three admitted it had been hard not to tell people secrets from the show and says she has been pestered everywhere for inside information, even though viewers don’t really want to spoil their viewing ahead of the finale.
She said: “It has been very hard to keep secrets because it is one show more than any other where people have been saying to me in the street ‘What is it? Where is Alice? Is she alive?’.
“And then moments later they say ‘no, don’t tell me!’. There has been a lot of that which is great.
“It has happened at the school gates, in the supermarket, just generally people were coming up to me, particularly before they knew Alice was definitely alive.
“People thought she was gone or they were confused. All the way through people have been asking. And people I know as well as people I don’t.”
