Spooky! Keeley is MI5’s shining light

Spying is clearly a difficult game to quit if the experience of sultry actress Keeley Hawes is anything to go by.

The 30-year-old former Spooks star was mistaken for an MI5 agent by a John Lewis salesman while shopping for a lamp in London - despite leaving the BBC series three years ago.

As he explained how the lamp worked, the enthusiastic employee decided to spotlight his own spying ambitions.

Keeley’s husband, Matthew Macfadyen, who met the actress on the Spooks set, says: “Suddenly, he leant forward and said to Keeley: “I’ve applied to join you lot.”

“He went back to explaining about the lamp and then leant in again and whispered: ‘I’ve sent in my application form.’

“Keeley was amazed. She said something like: ‘That’s wonderful.’ But what can you say? It’s just brilliant!”
