Granada International acquires Murdoch Mysteries

Granada International has acquired a brand new series of drama mysteries from Canadian producer Shaftesbury Films.

Thirteen one-hour episodes of The Murdoch Mysteries will be produced by Shaftesbury Films in Canada and will launch at Mipcom later this year.

According to C21media.net

The series is based on the trilogy of successful TV movies also produced by Shaftesbury Films and distributed by Granada International, starring Peter Outerbridge and Keeley Hawes, which were in turn adapted from the novels of Maureen Jennings.

The new television series will be produced for CHUM Canada and UKTV in the UK.

Set in Victorian Toronto, The Murdoch Mysteries reacquaints viewers with young Detective William Murdoch, who uses progressive forensic techniques such as finger printing to successfully solve cases and apprehend murderers.

BBC America to Show After Thomas

After Thomas will be shown on BBC America on April 22, 2007 at 8:00 pm ET.

Six-year-old Kyle Graham is scared. Not of monsters under the bed, but of just about everything. And even worse, he can't communicate his fears. His mother Nicola (Keeley Hawes (ShakespeaRetold: Macbeth, Tipping the Velvet) knows that Kyle wants to be left alone, safe and secure in his autistic world. But she also fears for his future if he continues to reject all emotional interaction. Her fierce determination to break into Kyle's world has placed an intolerable strain on her marriage. Her husband Rob (Ben Miles Coupling, The Forsyte Saga), although equally devoted to his son, is frustrated by Nicola's relentless drive to improve Kyle's condition and her resistance to putting Kyle into a highly reputable boarding school for autistic children.

Thomas, a golden retriever puppy, is a last desperate attempt. Although Nicola had heard that some autistic children improved with pets, nothing could prepare Nicola and Rob for how Thomas unlocks the door to a personality they never knew their son had. What follows is a fascinating and moving tale of two parents who, at breaking point, find hope they never dared to dream. Gritty and real, funny and heart-warming, After Thomas is an uplifting and moving true story.

Spooky! Keeley is MI5’s shining light

Spying is clearly a difficult game to quit if the experience of sultry actress Keeley Hawes is anything to go by.

The 30-year-old former Spooks star was mistaken for an MI5 agent by a John Lewis salesman while shopping for a lamp in London - despite leaving the BBC series three years ago.

As he explained how the lamp worked, the enthusiastic employee decided to spotlight his own spying ambitions.
