TV and Satellite blog review of Ashes to Ashes

From the blog:

As well as a gaggle of salivating journos, the stars of the show are in attendance; Philip Glenister (DCI Gene Hunt), the Marshall Lancaster (DC Chris Skelton) and new girls Keeley Hawes (DI Alex Drake) and Montserrat Lombard (WPC Sharon Granger).

A strict embargo prevents me from revealing too much about the show, but what I can say is that Ashes to Ashes is brilliant! Moving Gene Hunt and his cohorts from the 70s to the 80s really works. The muted browns and greys of the 70s are replaced with the sharp lines and bright primary colours of the 80s. The show is packed with classic 80s motifs: music, fashion, gadgets, and as a sneak peek at future episodes showed, light entertainment legends!

And about Keeley Hawes:

The big question is - can Keeley Hawes fill John Simms' shoes and carry the story? If Episode 1 is anything to go by, the answer is a resounding yes. The introduction of a female lead adds a dash of Moonlighting-style sexual tension into the mix, giving Gene Hunt even more opportunity to set the meterosexual movement back twenty years, as this early exchange with DI Drake ddemonstrates...

"Now then Bollinger-knickers. Are you going to kiss me or punch me?"

Priceless!

Just a few more weeks until it premieres.
