Dame Eileen Quits Upstairs Downstairs

Dame Eileen Atkins has refused to appear in the second series of Upstairs Downstairs, which is scheduled to begin filming in October.

According to The Daily Mail, she quit over differences with the writers over the direction of the script.

A source close to the drama said: ‘This is the last thing the BBC needed to happen. But Eileen has decided that she doesn’t want to go on with the series after reading the first of the new scripts.

‘She doesn’t like the direction in which they are taking her character. She made her feelings known and asked for changes to be made. When the BBC couldn’t tackle her concerns, she decided to call it a day. There are no bad feelings on either side but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a major headache.’

Dame Eileen’s departure comes just weeks before filming is due to start in Cardiff and means entire scripts have had to be rewritten. Her character will now not appear again and viewers will be told she has been killed off.

Keeley is happy that Upstairs, Downstairs to have 6 episodes

Keeley Hawes while speaking with BANG Showbiz, explained that she is happy to be able to further expand her character, Lady Agnes, in the second series of Upstairs, Downstairs.  The first series of the remake only had 3 episodes while the second series will have six, hour long episodes.  Filming for the Upstairs, Downstairs starts in October and is set to broadcast next year on BBC in the UK, and on PBS in the US in 2013.

She added: "It was lovely playing Lady Agnes, I absolutely loved it. I'm very excited about going back and taking the character further. We don't quite know what's going to happen to her."

Keeley has been enjoying the summer spending the time with her three children as well as gardening and growing vegetables.

"It's the summer holidays at the moment so I've been making the most of the time by spending it with my children - and I've been getting them ready to start school again."

To celebrate the new trend in instant coffee, Keeley Hawes has partnered with Kenco to launch the Kenco Millicano Trend Report. To find out more about what women are "loving right now", log onto www.facebook.com/kencomillicano.
